Unlocking Safety Excellence at Walters Group

On June 11th, Walters Group Health, Safety, and Environment team attended the Canadian Safety Summit at the Pearson Convention Centre in Toronto, discovering key advancement opportunities in our safety practices.

Embracing Innovation and Connection:

The summit stressed the importance of staying ahead in the evolving safety landscape.

Panel discussions focused on utilizing AI to enhance safety practices and exploring wearable devices for real-time monitoring. Walters Group has integrated Microsoft HoloLens to transform Quality Assurance in steel fabrication, enabling inspectors to detect flaws with augmented reality overlays and welders visualizing intricate weld patterns in real time.

HOP Approach:

Gordon Walsh from Energy Safety Canada presented the Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) approach, emphasizing the need to build resilience in people, processes, and systems so when things fail, they fail safely. The Walters approach emphasizes the need to provide T.I.M.E

T – Tools, equipment, & PPE

I – Information (Training, Policies, procedures, standards)

M – Materials (provide employees with all materials needed)

E – Experience (Training using the buddy system for the first 90days, mentorship, responsibility)

The Time poster across all our facilities is a constant reminder to provide employees with the best resources available to set them up for success at Walters.

The summit also provided networking opportunities with safety leaders. Walters Inc. leveraged these connections to learn from industry experts and address workplace challenges.

The Canadian Safety Summit reinforced Walters Group commitment to innovation and safety. By adopting technologies like AI and embracing methodologies such as HOP, we are advancing safety here at Walters.
